GOLF

St Louis golfers entered into Darren Clarke School's League for 2013/14 for the second year in a row. To compete at this level pupils must be members of a golf club.  This is valuable experience for St Louis students and Mr Henry is the staff member in charge of the golf and he intends to enter the Darren Clarke League again for 2014/15.

In March 2012 Una Bradley entered the ILGU School's Senior Ladies competition.  This was the first time in a considerable number of years that St Louis had a female entry in such a prestigious event. The competition took place at the splendid Portstewart Golf Club and Una played extremely well and narrowly missed out by a single point in qualifying for the All Ireland series.

SWIMMING

St Louis students have the opportunity to compete in a number of Ulster Secondary School Swimming Gala's during the year.  In 2013/14, two galas were held in Seven Towers Leisure Centre which was convenient for St Louis students.  Oonagh O'Neill (Year 12) is a very accomplished swimmer who competes at a high level outside of school so inevitably Oonagh was St Louis' most successful swimmer at the meetings.

Miss Lee is the staff member in charge of swimming and she keeps pupils up to date with all the information on galas.

NETBALL

In 2013/14 the Year 8 and 9 netball teams competed in the Ballymena and NI leagues.  Miss Lee and Miss Donnelly hope to enter the same two competitions for the incoming year and will be in touch with the players in the coming weeks.

RUGBY

In 2013/14 Tom Wiggins, development officer with Ballymena Rugby Club came into the school to deliver rugby sessions during PE and after school.  This led to Year 8 and 9 boys competing in a rugby blitz in March when they finished second out of five schools.

SHOW JUMPING

In the last number of years St Louis staff have facilitated students who wish to compete in equestrian events.  This year Orla Kane (Year 9) and Brigid Delargy (Year 8) have been entered in the upcoming Tri Inter Schools Show Jumping League.  They will compete in both the individual and team categories on the following dates:

·         Saturday 27th September 2014

·         Saturday 11th October 2014

·         Saturday 8th November 2014

·         Saturday 13th December 2014

·         Saturday 10th January 2015

In the summer of 2014, Orla O'Kane and Patrick Doherty were selected to represent NI in the Mounted Games European championships which were held in Gouy Les Piéton in Belgium.  Orla and Patrick both had to undertake much training and competition in order to make the NI team.

The competition was held from 21stto 28th July. Mounted Games is an equestrian sport in which riders complete numerous races such as sword lancers, jousting races, speed weavers and the mug race to name but a few! The NI team finished 12th in a very tough competition.  In August Patrick along with current Year 8 pupil Brigid Delargy took part in the Home Internationals in England and finished 5th overall.
