 Job Description for Head Prefects

2019/20

 

The position of Prefect is a very important one and therefore it is essential that the highest standards of behaviour and commitment to the school are maintained. The duties of Head Prefects at St Louis Grammar School are outlined below:

 

Careers Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which younger school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Be ambassadors for the school, attending Careers functions and events.
  • Assist in the administration and organisation of extracurricular career events inclusive of evening events.
  • Monitor the organisation and general tidiness of the careers library/office.
  • Liaise with the study supervisors and notice board prefects to ensure promotional material/information posters are appropriately displayed in both studies.
  • To assist in evaluating student career events with the student body.
  • To deliver important messages to form classes when necessary. 
  • To communicate careers material, literature and information across subject areas.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Digital Leaders Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which younger school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist at the Lego Minestormers Club.
  • Assist with the upkeep of the ICT rooms within St Louis.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Homework Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which younger school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Attend the after school Homework Club for junior pupils
  • Work with junior pupils at the Homework Club in the completion of homework.
  • Set an example in regard to excellent homework and deadlines.
  • Promote the completion of high quality homework throughout the school.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Hospitality Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Be ambassadors for the school attending Annual Prizegiving, Open Evening, our New Intake Day and any other event the Principal/Head of Sixth Form deems necessary.
  • Assist canteen staff when necessary.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Sixth Form Hospitality Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist the study supervisor in the administration of the study and reading room.
  • Monitor student behaviour within the study/reading room.
  • Play an active role in the proper care of the study/reading room, ensuring the Sixth Form area is kept litter free and tidy at all times.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Library Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Advise pupils on books they will enjoy reading.
  • Advise pupils on useful resources for homework.
  • Help to issue and return stock.
  • Help out at special events such as author visits, Open Night, etc.
  • Help to prepare Literacy displays.
  • Help to keep the Library tidy.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Literacy Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.

·        To provide assistance and support with Literacy events and activities throughout the school year.  Events and activities include: Poetry Slam – National Poetry Day, World Book Day and Poetry Day Ireland.

·        To assist with duties and tasks as directed by the Literacy Co-ordinator.

  • To be punctual for duties and attend all Literacy Prefect meetings where possible.
  • To assist and support the Literacy Co-ordinator with the promotion and marketing of Literacy events.

·        To work productively with others, whilst using their initiative and originality to contribute to the Literacy programme of events and activities.

·        To be an ambassador of excellence for Literacy and the school.

·        To maintain, update and refresh the Literacy display board, as directed.

·        To liaise with the Literacy Co-ordinator and Librarian to organise and lead Literacy competitions and the Key Stage 3 Book club.

·        To check their school email on a regular basis for communications.

  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Locker Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Be available for prefect duties from 8.40am.
  • Assist in the administration of locker keys.
  • Ensure lockers/ locker areas are tidy and in good condition at all times.
  • Assist in the administration of lost property.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Marketing Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist the Year Head in the organisation of all Sixth Form literature.
  • Take photos at all Sixth Form Events.
  • Work with the Head of Sixth Form to write articles for the school website on Sixth Form events.
  • Assist in the administration of a Newsletter each term.
  • Collaborate with Year Heads to keep up-to date with activities within the school.
  • Produce/write articles for the Newsletter. 
  • Actively promote the school through newsletter/school website.
  • Promote Sixth Form at St Louis Grammar School.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Mentor Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist staff with the pastoral provision of junior students.
  • Regularly attend Junior registration classes.
  • Provide support to junior students who have asked for help, in conjunction with staff.
  • Organise and run activities for junior students.
  • Attend Junior Assemblies to keep up to date with junior activities and events.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.


Numeracy Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Promote Numeracy throughout the school (in conjunction with the Numeracy co-ordinator).
  • Prepare and update Numeracy displays across the school.
  • Work with the Numeracy co-ordinator to provide Numeracy support to junior pupils.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Pupil Communication Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Work with Year Heads/ Heads of Departments to gather information on activities within the school.
  • Take responsibility for the upkeep of notice boards throughout the school, ensuring notice boards are up to date, tidy and visually attractive at all times.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Sports Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Promote sport within the school.
  • Collaborate with the PE department to organise interclass tournaments during lunch –time/afterschool.
  • Collaborate with Notice board Prefects to ensure the promotion of sport within the school.
  • Attend and promote all major matches outside school hours.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Lunch/Breaktime Supervision Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist staff in supervising the corridors during lunch-time and break-time.
  • Assist staff in supervising the canteen at break-time and lunch-time.
  • Ensure relevant corridors are kept clear when parents are entering the school for Parent Teacher Meetings/Year Masses/Information Afternoons.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required.

 

Year Book Prefects

Are expected to:

  • Provide a role model to which lower school pupils aspire.
  • Meet high standards of politeness, courtesy, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist in the Administration of the Sixth Form Year Book.
  • Produce/write articles for the Sixth Form Year Book.
  • Collate a series of photographs for the Sixth Form Year Book.
  • Gather sponsorship for the Sixth Form Year Book.
  • Assist in the administration of the Sixth Form hoodies.
  • Attend all Head Prefect Meetings and training sessions.
  • Help with the day to day running of the school when required
