The Town Goes Country
On Wednesday 10th May twenty-five Y11 Home Economics Students and three members of staff went to Balmoral Show. The aim of the visit was information gathering on their topic as well as gaining an insight into how food was produced, processed and retailed. They were also able to see how many small farms are turning into market gardens as in producing and selling their own speciality and organic food. Sampling the produce was the order of the day at both the small market farm staff and the larger retailers.
Year 11 were also impressed to see Paula McIntyre using some of this local produce (rapeseed oil and organic saddleback pork chorizo) in a cookery demonstration at the ‘Taste the Greatness’ stand in Northern Ireland food pavilion.
Altogether the Students had a fantastic day coming home with changed opinions on what an agriculture show was.
