McLarnon Cup Semi Final Defeat
St Louis’ GS 2-8
St Ciaran’s Ballygawley 0-17
St Louis’ MacLarnon Cup squad’s hopes of reaching a first senior final in almost 20 years were dashed on Saturday afternoon in Ballinderry. Their opponents St Ciaran’s Ballygawley were formidable opposition and while St Louis’ held a slender lead at half time, the Tyrone side created and converted more scoring chances in the second half to advance to the St Patrick’s Day final. Despite trailing most of the opening half, 1-3 from midfielder Ronan Kelly gave St Louis’ a 1-4 to 0-6 advantage after thirty minutes of play. With ten minutes of the game remaining St Ciaran’s were ahead by four points until substitute Darragh Fagan reacted quickest to poke the ball to the net and reduce the margin to one point. While St Louis’ pushed hard to get an equaliser, St Ciaran’s tagged on three more points while Conal Cunning’s sublime point was the last score for St Louis’ and the Tyrone school held on for a three point victory.
All the players and their mentors must be congratulated for their effort and commitment throughout the 2016/17 MacLarnon Cup campaign. Well done to all!
