‘Blood Brothers’ Theatre Trip
On Thursday 1st February, our Year 12 cohort and Year 11 Drama students attended a fantastic production of Blood Brothers at The Grand Opera House, Belfast. Students were impressed by the amazing performance of Willy Russell’s iconic masterpiece about twin brothers separated at birth. Their contrasting upbringing is set against the growing class divide of Britain in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. With one twin afforded a wealth of opportunities and the other struggling to make ends meet a difficult working class background. Although the context of the play is heavily rooted in mid to late 20thCentury Britain, it still resonates with the political challenges facing society and our students today.
The high energy, emotionally charged performance was outstanding and pupils and staff were captivated from the moment the curtain went up. It gave pupils an enhanced understanding of plot development and themes within this GCSE play text.
