Libraries provide an
irreplaceable hub for community reading
Our school librarian is called Mrs Cathy Boyd
The library opening hours are:
Before school from 8.30am
Breaktime & Lunchtime
After school until 4.30pm
Year 8 come to the library once a week and Years 9 & 10 – every other week.
Each Year group has a booklet to complete in their library classes in order to become a Reading Champion!
We have 3 kindles - These can be borrowed for a week at a time.
We have Author visits twice a year.
We have a Book-Fair each year, usually in February. The pupils are given the opportunity to buy books and in doing so raise funds for the school library.
We have a Year 8 Club on a Friday at lunch-time. This is just an opportunity for Year 8’s to get to know others in their year group. They have sole use of the library - to enter weekly competitions, use the computers, play chess, ask for help with projects or simply sit and chat to their friends. On this day, if they bring a packed lunch, the pupils can eat it in the library or if they go to the canteen they can come up afterwards
!The library also holds competitions for all Year groups at special times of the year including Roald Dahl Day, World Book Day, Halloween, Christmas etc.
There is a chess club in the library every Wednesday after school (3.30-4.30) Beginners and those with more experience are very welcome.
Homework Club every Thursday from 3.30 - 4.30. Snacks are provided! (Miss Bigmore)
